Turkish private power producer ENKA set a new world record for power plant availability over the 12-month period ending November 2010 based on recently upgraded GE F-technology gas turbines, the US power engineering giant said April 5.
GE said that ENKA’s Adapazarı and Gebze power plants, with a total installed capacity of 2,320 MW powered by GE Frame 9FA+e gas turbines, achieved 99.8% availability, last year, which is nearly 7% higher than the industry average for all F technology gas turbines over the last three years of 92% and a global record for F-class gas turbine technology. It added that the increased availability allowed the plants to generate an additional 1.3 TWh of electricity.
GE Energy implemented an efficiency improvement upgrade referred to as the Cooling Optimization Package in 2008 and 2009 on the gas turbines at both power plants, as a result of which output increased by 2% and average combined-cycle efficiency reached 55.7%.
The GE gas turbines at all three of ENKA’s plants – Adapazarı, Gebze and İzmir – operate under a 16-year contractual service agreement with GE. The three plants supply 15% of Turkey’s electricity, GE said.
